Review of St Andrews Football ground (Birmingham City) -18 August 2021
We were a party of two one with a hidden disability and a new wheelchair user
Following rather expensive and confusing parking arrangements at Nottingham Forrest a few days earlier we opted to use a parking app.
This proved to be a cost effective and efficient choice. The cost for 4 hours just over £7 and a mere 5 minutes’ walk to the accessible entrance. Other away supporters evidently had the same idea.
On arrival at the gate, a bag check and we were on our way. We had a dedicated steward from that point all the way to the front row of the away end.
On checking the tickets, and despite using the stadium map we had been allocated rows 13/14.
We queried this with the steward who said ahh you are on the platform let me take you up.
We passed an accessible toilet (discuss this later) and he checked neither of us required the use of it and despite having our own radar key he demonstrated he had one. (big tick for this)
The platform is level with all the catering facilities for the away supporters, so it was easy to go and get refreshments as and when required.
The view was good as can be seen from the video below.
After the match we waited for the masses to leave and the steward to accompany the other platform users who were also relocated to leave.
We were then escorted to the original access gate via the lift.
The coaches were still in the car park along with the BBH cars.
We returned to our car and were on the road very promptly
Would recommend the platform, front row from my brief view would give you a great view of players ankles and knees.
The accessible toilet was wide with a variety of grab rails etc however, No changing table. There was also no waste bin for used hand towels either.
I hope you found this review helpful and given the number of stewards on duty I would like to think our VIP service was not unique. The other wheelchair users and PA’s seemed happy with the platform view too. 9/10.
