We attended Watford v AFCBournemouth Saturday 1st October. We arrived in a Disabled Transport minibus just gone 2 o’clock, although the road was “closed ” common sense was used and we were allowed to alight just outside their club superstore. We were immediately greeted by designated Watford stewards, all 3 wheelchairs had a steward each. Ours waited whilst my husband filled his face with a cheese and bacon beefburger, she then guided us down a wide alley or narrow street, along the length of the stand and around the corner. Once through the accessible turnstile, we were ecsorted all the way along the inside of the stand, back to the rest of the away fans. The wheelchair platform, accomadates 5 wheelchairs with carers sat behind and is about 9 ins to a foot high. With only 1 ramp on, if the first on wants to get off, at least 2 others have to alight. If my husband had to sit behind me he wouldn’t have had much of a view, looking past me and the other chairs. Being right at the front and in a corner, your are exposed to the elements, if it rains be prepared, if the sun is shining, have some sunblock, either way, take a good hat : )
I can’t fault the stewarding, helpful, polite, well informed, they also have someone take half-time refreshment orders and they deliver. Accessible loo is under their family stand and well stewarded.
All in all, top notch stewarding but limited facilities for visiting fans in wheelchairs. I understand they are trying to improve it but will wait and see what it’s like next year (if I go).
