Shrewsbury Castle houses the spectacular collections of the Shropshire Regimental Museum Trust including pictures, uniforms, medals, weapons and other equipment from the 18th Century to the present day.
There’s no on site car park but blue badge holders may park on the castle grounds by prior arrangement. There are also lots of car parks around the town with parking for blue badge holders but the nearest is a 15 minute wheel away. Blue Badge holders must pay to park in these car parks.
To access the museum an able bodied companion would need to go up the flight of stairs, into the main entrance to pay for the tickets (carer goes free) and to escort you to the wheelchair accessible entrance. This is up a steep curving slope to the left hand side of the building which you may need assistance with if you’re a manual wheelchair user. This takes you into the main exhibition hall which is all on one level.
To access the ground floor and shop you have to ask someone to take you back out the way you came and into the exit which is underneath the stairs that go up to the main entrance. This is accessed by portable ramp which someone will put down for you, its also where the accessible toilet it. This is outside and of a reasonable size but not massive. Assistance dogs welcome, both within the Castle and its grounds.
There is a linear walk around the castle grounds which is accessible for wheelchair users although some steeper slopes may require the assistance of an able bodied companion for those who use a manual wheelchair.
