A beautiful inn set in the lovely New Forest National Park just outside the village of Burley. I had booked a table for 2 people to go with my P.A but she was ill so went with parents and the dog instead. Phoned up in the morning to change the booking, this wasn’t a problem and it was easily changed for a dog friendly table by the door.
They have a large car park but only two disabled spaces which don’t have the extra width of a proper disabled space as there are no hatchings around them. I do always manage to get parked in one though however there isn’t much space to get from your car to the building if both disabled spaces are full but is okay, the removal of a hedge would help.
The main entrance is level and the doors are normally propped open with a beer barrel, sometimes it can be a problem as they don’t open it enough before it’s propped open so has to be moved. Once inside it’s all accessible with level access into the bar, this is high with no lower level section. There is a shallow slope down into all levels of the restaurant so you can sit anywhere you like, they have lots of different types of table with some easier to get the knees under than others so if you have a problem getting under tables with lips underneath then do say when booking. The table we were given had a lip which I couldn’t get my knees under, the very kind waitress got two wooden serving boards and propped the table up with these which solved the problem.
The disabled toilet is of a reasonable size and is kept locked, there’s a key that is left hanging on a hook outside the door. This leaves it open for abuse if people know where the key is but most seem to be oblivious to this, the only negative is it’s also used as the baby change.
The food is the highlight here and it’s one of my favourite places to go for a good meal so if you like gastropubs it’s one for you. The staff are also very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.
