After getting dropped off by the shuttle bus (you can read about this in my review of the visitors centre) we made our way along the tarmac path towards the stone circle. The path was gently sloping and was about 150-200 meters walk/push to the circles from where the bus stop is. Dotted along the route are information boards telling you about the site and what you were seeing. All of these boards were at the ideal height for somebody in a wheelchair to read although might be a little low for those who are standing.

The tarmac path runs a little further past the stones and then you get to the main hazard of the route around the stones, a short and reasonably steep slope down the side of the ditch. It wasn’t a problem for my large electric wheelchair but for those pushing someone in a manual chair you need to hold on tight, you can see the slope in one of the photos. There was also a hose across the path shortly after with a lumpy ramp over the top, this was a little big for my chair so had to drive over the actual hose. After this the path circles around the stones and becomes a relatively flat grass path but a little bumpy in places. Be careful if you use a manual wheelchair that you don’t end up tipping up and landing on your face. The grass path near the end has plastic matting over it so if you find it hard on the grass you can still see most of the stones without going all the way around. The wider landscape can be accessed but only for those in off road or outdoor electric wheelchairs due to the rough nature of the ground. I think the access was as good as it could have been.

Apparently there’s a small emergency toilet at the stones which is accessible for wheelchair users but I didn’t see where this was.
