I was recently given the opportunity to stay at the Flat Space in Ropley, this rural, peaceful and quite remote location is an ideal place to unwind. I say peaceful, it is until a steam train comes by, which is an amazing sight.

But, what is the accessibility like? Answer, simply amazing. Lets explain more…..

First of all, The Flat Space is well……Flat! With great big front doors at the front, that are very easy to open.

All the doorways in the Flat Space have been widened and all switches are at easy reachable height for wheelchair users.

The Flat Space has two big bedrooms (with ceiling track hoist access) and a smaller guest twin room.

Bedroom one has: –
A wardrobe
Ceiling track hoist
Two profiling beds (By profiling I mean the raise up and down, and the head and feet parts move individually)
A small work area.
Bedside table.
TV.

Bedroom two: –

A wardrobe
Ceiling track hoist access
A double bed.
A Volker 3080 bed (Please google it, it is wonderful)
Bedside table.
TV.

Bedroom three is a guest room, more ideally suited for non wheelchair users: –

A Wardrobe
Twin beds
Shower room (with toilet)
Storage area
Two Bedside Tables
TV
Safe Box

The Flat Space has two bathrooms, one bathroom has a Closomat toilet, another toilet, a height adjustable sink, ceiling track hoist, a lovely bath with you can be hoisted into, a flat shower area, a shower chair and for want of a better word, a bath bed.

The kitchen area is open planned and joins the living area.

The kitchen area has all amenties such as fridge, freezer, cooker, dishwasher, washer / dryer, blender, kettle, microwave etc, etc. What is great about this kitchen / dining area are the accessiblity features. The dining table is height adjustmentable allowing for full inclusivity when having a dining experience with friends or family. The kitchen sink / food preparation area is also height adjustable, now nobody can escape washing something up or assisting with food preparation, allowing the disabled person to feel fully included at all times.

The living room area is spacous with a magnificent view overlooking the Watercress line and into the countryside. The living room area has a sizeable television, a radio, two seater sofas and a raise and recline armchair. There is also a manual hoist available, which operates via hand pump.

Outside, the patio area offers wonderful views, with easy exit / entry, a patio table and chairs, a washing line and a BBQ area.

Nearly all the paintings around the Flat Space are by mouth and foot painters, adding that additional personalised touch. The Flat Space was designed by renowed mouth and foot artist Tom Yendell and features some of his work.

There are wonderful country walks to go on, most accessible and the Watercress Line is great to wonder around.

Please do make enquiries to stay at this wonderful accessible and inclusive holiday Flat Space.
