The Cavern, the place that helped start the careers of The Beatles and many other acts over the years. This isn’t the original Cavern as that was demolished in the 70’s but its been rebuilt on the same site using the original bricks. The main entrance isn’t accessible to wheelchair users due to it being down a flight of stairs, there is a lift around the back of the building but to use it you have to ask the security on the door or as was the case when we visited call the phone number that’s on a plaque on the wall. The lift takes you down into an underground car park which will then lead to a set of doors into The Cavern Lounge. To get into the actual Cavern Club you will have to go down a short, steep ramp (not ideal but manageable) and out through a curtain. Once inside its reasonably large and not as claustrophobic as I would have imagined, there’s a bar and plenty of places to sit. The area in front of the stage is clear so you can get a good view if no one is standing in front of you. I think its great you can get inside and experience what The Cavern would have been like in the past seeing as the original Cavern wasn’t accessible to the disabled unless you could do the stairs. There isn’t any car parking and I don’t know if there is a disabled toilet because I didn’t need to use one.

At the main entrance there are almost 40 steps leading down into the club. However, there is a lift. A security man will have to take you round the back of the building to access it. There may be obstacles like boxes and empty kegs stacked. It is a working bar after all.
But it is navigatable. Once you get down to the floor level of the club, through some double doors, you are on a higher platform. There are a few tables and chairs. These need to be booked in advance, otherwise those without a wheelchair will have to stand.
On the opposite side, there is a smaller platform where there is some seating. Again, this needs to be booked in advance.
From the double doors, the bar is directly in front, and the stage is on your left.
To go back up in the lift, you just need to alert a security man, or the bar staff.
I didn’t use the toilets, so I can’t comment on those.
