This is the main station for the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway, this is the one recommended to start at for disabled travelers and the one we started at. Both routes for the railway start from here. You should book tickets in advance because they only have limited spaces for wheelchair users, I think there was two on the train I went on. They were very helpful on the phone and was easy to book them, carer goes free. There is a small tarmac car park here that has an attendant and three disabled spaces. When we went there were no disabled spaces left but my dad went and spoke to the car park attendant and he moved some cones and allowed us to park in the no parking hatched area, he was very helpful.
There is ramped access into the booking hall and after this it’s all level access into the shop, bar, cafe and out onto the platform. It looses a mark due to the ticket counter being high although someone will come out to you if it’s a problem. The shop is a little small with narrow aisles, I found it difficult getting past a table that is in the middle as you enter from the booking hall. Help is available in the shop and cafe if required, just ask them. The platform is tarmac, level and wide so shouldn’t be a problem for anyone. The disabled toilet is at the far end of the platform and has level access, the standard toilets have a step. This toilet wasn’t the biggest but was adequate, it was cold and not the nicest tbh.
They have a ramp to get wheelchair users onto the train but only takes the weight of 250kg and the carriages are narrow so you can’t take large chairs or scooters onboard. There is a step for ambulant disabled if you find the standard step up to big. Once onboard you get table service and will come and take your order for food and drinks plus deliver them, all the staff onboard were lovely and very helpful.
